High Noon
1952 | Western | USA | Directed by Fred Zinnemann
Overview
Gary Cooper as a marshal waits for the noon train and the killers, abandoned by the town he served. Real time structure, eighty five minutes to twelve with the clock cutting in. John Wayne hated it and made Rio Bravo in reply. A western as moral pressure cooker. Cooper won the Oscar while screenwriter Carl Foreman was blacklisted.
