Once Upon a Time in the West
1968 | Western | Italy | Directed by Sergio Leone
Overview
Leone went to Monument Valley and out Forded Ford: a widow, a harmonica assassin, a railroad, and Henry Fonda cast against type as a child killer. Ennio Morricone wrote each character a theme before shooting began. The opening station sequence, three gunmen and a fly, is tension as pure sound. Grand, slow, monumental. The western as opera.
