Raiders of the Lost Ark
1981 | Adventure | USA | Directed by Steven Spielberg
Overview
Indiana Jones, archaeology professor and punchline hero, races Nazis to the Ark of the Covenant. Lucas and Spielberg rebuilt the serial with modern craft: the boulder, the melting faces, the John Williams fanfare. The swordsman versus gun improv became legend. Five Oscars and top grosser of 1981. The matinee movie perfected.
