The Shining
1980 | Horror | UK | Directed by Stanley Kubrick
Overview
A writer winters as a hotel caretaker and the hotel winters into him. Kubrick Steadicam corridors, the twins, the elevator of blood, and Nicholson eyebrows. Stephen King hated the coldness of it, which is the point: horror as architecture and symmetry, not sympathy. Initial reviews were hostile, and now it tops horror lists. Room 237 documentaries probe it still. Forever analyzable.
